i would say for a sixth grade boy to break 6 minutes is good, 7th grader to break 5:40, and an eighth grader to break 5:20. And if you want a really good time, the record in my middle school is 4:47 for boy, and 5:01 for a girl
While attending Wilmington Jr. High in Wilmington, California back in 1971, a close personal friend of mine who passed away a few years back, was certainly much faster than anyone had ever seen before, or since! Bill Delatorre ran a mile time of 4:13 while in the 9th grade. Every year since his death; friends and members of the Banning High school track team, cross country team and their sons have attended a gathering in his honor at Big Bear, California. Bill just kept getting faster and faster! Bill would usually finish with an incredible time and would not be breathing very hard at all!
