I might add, that if the institution operates on a plus system, the letter grade could be a D+. As the above contributor stated, a D is a minimum passing grade, but it is not satisfactory. If you where to transfer to another college or university, the D grades would not transfer. Lastly, on a grading scale of 4.0 with 4.0 being the highest, a D grade is a 1.0. If the student falls below a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, the student is a risk of being dismissed.
