What is the Scope of work for Site Electrical Engineer?

Site engineers perform a technical, organisational and supervisory role on construction projects, setting out and determining the location for above and underground infrastructural installations involved in construction operations. Site engineers apply designs and plans to mark out the site and can be involved in projects ranging from small scale to multi-million pound ventures. This may include civil, road, rail and other infrastructure projects. A site engineer works as part of the site management team liaising with and working alongside architects, engineers, construction managers, supervisors, planners, surveyors and subcontractors. They share responsibility for site security, health and safety, and the organisation and supervision of material and human resources.

How do you bypass an electric meter?

There is no need to bypass the utility meter. In order to use power generated on site, you need to install what is called a transfer switch. The transfer switch selects either utility power (that comes through the meter), or site generated power, but never both at the same time. You then wire branch circuits from the transfer switch to the various lights, receptacles, etc. you want to power. You can buy transfer switches that have from one to 20 or more circuit breaker positions to do this.Never, ever wire site generated power directly to utility-fed circuits! This can cause severe damage, as well as hurt or kill people. If there is a power outage, and you are running your generator (or whatever), you can backfeed power onto the utility lines. The workers trying to fix the outage, can come in contact with the lines, thinking they are dead, not realizing you are backfeeding power to them. Be safe, use a transfer switch!IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.If you do this work yourself, always turn off the powerat the breaker box/fuse panel BEFORE you attempt to do any work AND always use a meter or voltage indicatorto insure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

When converting a polarized 2 prong to 3 prong outlet is it safe to use a radiator pipe that goes to ground as ground with a GFCI outlet when there is no other ground or cold water pipe nearby?

If you asked this question because you have no experience of working on the latest household power circuits and you hope to get enough information on this site to be able to do the job properly and safely, it is best to warn you not to rely on getting accurate information from this site about such a potentially dangerous subject. By asking this question you probably aren't quite ready to take on this particular task. Whether it is legal or illegal to use a radiator pipe going into the ground instead of running a proper ground wire do this job depends entirely on the Wiring Codes or Regulations for the locality (Town/State) and on the exact location of the GFCI outlet: if it is anywhere that is subject to water splashes or spray - such as a pool-side area, or in any room supplied with running water pipes, such as a kitchen, bathroom, shower room, etc. - in many places nowadays it is actually illegal to attempt to do this kind of work unless you are already a licensed electrician. Really, don't do this one yourself. Electricity is far too dangerous to handle if you don't already know your local Wiring Codes or Regulations or you have not been trained how to do this work. For your own safety and that of anyone else who may to use the appliance connected to that outlet, ask a professional licensed electrician to advise you or to do the work for you. If you do this work yourself, always turn off the power at the breaker box/fuse panel BEFORE you attempt to do any work AND always use a meter or voltage indicatorto insure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized. IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
