So area of a circle is pi*(radius^2), since tau = 2*pi, then you have pi = (2*pi/2), so (2*pi/2)*radius^2 = (tau/2)*radius^2

Sure. Since pi = tau/2, in principle you can replace pi by tau/2 in any formula in which it appears. Some formulae will become simpler that way, others won't.
