A rectangle and a trapezoid are alike in that:

  • both are polygons
  • both have four sides (that is, both are quadrilaterals)
  • both have four angles
  • both have interior angles whose sum is 360°
  • both have exterior angles whose sum is 360°
  • both have at least one pair of parallel sides
  • the area of each is (1/2 of the height) times (the sum of the bases)
  • both can tesselate

By definition, a rectangle is NOT a trapezoid since a trapezoid can have ONLY one set of parallel sides and a rectangle always has two.
