The Pythagorean Theorem is used to calculate the hypotenuse (i.e longest side) in a right angled triangle. The hypotenuse is the line opposite the right angle.

The equation 'Hypotenuse² = Opposite² + Adjacent² ' is used to find out the length of the hypotenuse.

For Example: Opp=6cm Adj=4cm

hyp² = 6² + 4²

hyp² = 36 + 16

hyp² = 52

hyp = (square root of) 52

hyp = 7.21cm

Hope that helps =]
