For a parallelogram that is NOT a rectangle or square (i.e. a rhombus or rhomboid), multiply the base times the height. Draw a line through the parallelogram so that it is a large rectangle in the middle, and two small triangles to each side.

Now you can see that the area of the parallelogram is the same as a rectangle of the same height and width. You must use the "height" (distance between top and bottom), not the length of the slanted sides.

Area = base times height. (A=bh)
Area = base*height
Base x height
