1 square mile = 640 acres so 640 x 100 = 64,000 acres in 100 square miles there are actually several acre measurements around the world but the one above is for the standard US survey acre, also the British acre, which is defined as 220 yards x 22 yards (1 furlong x 1 chain), or 4840 sq yards, 640 to the square mile.
