If by 20 ft, you mean the perimeter, I would separate the octagon into shapes that I do know how to get the area of. So 20 ft divided by 8 sides = 5/2 ft per side. Separate this into 5 squares and 4 right triangles. So that's (5/2)^2 times 5 squares plus the area of 4 right triangles, or 2 squares - (5/2)^2 times 2 squares. 5*(25/4)+2(25/4). (125/4)+(50/4)=(175/4). 43.75 sq. ft.
