You just described a run-of-the-mill rectangle. A special case of the rectangle, where all sides are equal, is the square. But if you have a quadrilateral with four right angles and one pair of opposite sides is longer than the other pair of opposite sides, you have a rectangle. Period.

Do the two opposite sides of a rectangle have to be longer than the other two opposite sides?

Usually when thinking of a rectangle we see that two parallel sides are longer than the other two. However a rectangle is just defined as having four right angles so a square can be a rectangle meaning that a rectangle may have all four sides of the same length. A square is always a rectangle. A rectangle is not always a square.

How is a kite and a rectangle similar and different?

Both are quadrilaterals. Both have two pairs of side of equal length. In a kite they are adjacent sides, in a rectangle they are opposite. A kite has one pair of equal angles, all of a rectangle's angles are equal. In a kite, one diagonals bisects the other, in a rectangle both do.

How many equal sides does rectangle have?

A rectangle has two pairs of equal sides. In a rectangle, the equal sides are opposite of each other. A square has four equal sides.

Are diagonals of equal length in a parallelogram and rectangle?

the diagonal in a paralleogram is not equal but the diagonals in the rectangle are congruent this is because the opposite sides of a parallelogram and rectangle are same parallel to each other but the adjacent sides of a parallelogram is not perpendicular where as the adjacent sides of rectangle is perpendicular to each other.

What are properties of a rectangle?

A rectangle has four sides and four angles. A rectangle is a closed shape. All four angles of a rectangle are right angles. That is, they are 90 degrees. Opposite sides of a rectangle are the same length. Opposite sides of a rectangle are parallel. That is, if they were extended infinitely they wouldn't touch. ***Additionally, the diagonals of a rectangle are congruent (unlike other parallelograms), and they also bisect each other. While all parallelograms share the bisecting diagonals characteristic, only rectangles (and by extension squares) have congruent diagonals.***

Other wise it wouldn't be a rectangle.

How can you prove that a rectangle is really a rectangle?

In a rectangle, all the opposite sides, and angles are congruent to each other. All 4 angles of the rectangle, are right angles.

What figure is a rectangle?
