A cube is a 3D version of a square, a sphere is a 3D circle.

Difference: a cube has 6 square flat sides, but the sphere has an infinite number of flat triangular sides. Since a sphere is made of an infinite number of points equal distant from the center, you can connect any three of those points forming a triangle that does not encompass another point on that sphere, then lay a plane in contact with those 3 points to form one of the infinite number of triangular flat sides. You can argue that in theory this is impossible, but with practical reasoning it is possible if the sphere is to indeed have any surface at all.
