Angular Misalignment:

Front Foot = (TIR x B)/A

Rear Foot = (TIR x B)/A

Parallel Misalignment:

All Feet = (TIR + Bar Sag)/2

Note:

  • Positive values mean adding height (shims); negative mean subtracting height (removing shims).
  • TIR = Total indicator runout (the reading on the dial indicator)
  • A = The diameter of the circle the indicator makes on the coupling face
  • B = Distance between the coupling being measured and the center of the bolt hole on the front foot of the machine being measured.
  • C = Distance between the coupling being measured and the center of the bolt hole on the rear foot of the machine being measured.

Vibrating steering wheel at 40 MPH?

Your rims are bent and/or your alignment is off. Bent rim, bad tire, loose suspension/steering component.

Do bad rims cause bad alignment?

The short answer is yes. The rim itself can vibrate excessively on the axle which could loosen the components which maintain the alignment. This could happen gradually and go unnoticed for awhile. Chances are better bad tires can vibrate which is why they are balanced upon installation. Your tire dealer should be able to differentiate between a damaged/bent rim and a bad tire.

Will 22 inch fit on 1996 z28?

Not without suspension modification. Check with speed shops and parts stores for complete mod kits that will allow that rim size to work. Also be aware that will raise the vehicle's ride height and effect alignment. Normal alignment specs will not work with the modification and a speciality alignment shop should be consulted.
