perhaps responsibility can be a good thing. today, however, many of us are exhausted from the responsibility of taking care of ourselves. every day we are given information about what we should fear, what we should protect ourselves from. this seems like a big project. we are also told that, if we truly care, we will take take an active interest in taking care of the planet, electing honest politicians, looking out for our neighbor. it all makes sense and yet, how can it be done? to take care of ourselves...eat healthy food, monitor our body through medical tests, floss twice a day, exercise, eat limited quantities, get adequate sleep, improve our mind....seems like a full-time job. when is there time to take care of others? sure, we can be in a "helping" occupation. i have done this many times and yet it feels a bit odd, getting paid for helping. in the whole scheme of things, what can we do to help others? should we open our house to the homeless? sell our good and give to the poor? place our faith in yet another candidate for office? is it ok for me to be warm and comfortable while others are not. what if i love other human beings? what do i "owe' them? must we fear intimate relationships due to the fear of taking responsibility for others? how do we manage our feelings? is it possible to do what we can, physically and emotionally, and then relax. must we set an example for others? do you feel a "responsibility" to assist me in sharing some of your opinions?
