Math was used in Torah-learning where relevant, and for business. It was never pursued for its own sake.

The Hebrew Bible contains instances of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The Talmud also has trigonometry and geometry, but never as separate subjects. They are used in calculating correct application of certain Torah-laws.
