WD 40 is Water Displacement 40th attempt. wd40 was originally created to prevent corrosion on the tips of the Military missiles while in storage. One would use a lubricant to improve the mechanical part -- e.g. chain -- within a bike if it was starting to create friction/ increased wear and tear. A good lubricant to use would be something like WD40 as it would provide both lubricating properties and reduce the likely hood of rust.

After you've taken it apart, take out the rear bolt (the one with the cocking pin on the side and the spring on the back) and lubricate the yellow ring near the front of it. You can use airtool lubricant or any paintball specific lubricant (no aerosols like wd40) then you can just use your fingers to spread a small amount of oil arount the entire oring.
