Earnings for teachers are not set on a nationwide basis. It depends on your district. In my area, it varies for first year teachers from 27,900 a year to 36,000 a year (both are in addition to benefits). As you gain more experience, you move up the salary scale. Another way to move up the scale is to continue your education. Your post graduate hours count to help you receive better pay. Don't forget to take taxes out of those earnings! The teacher earning 27,900 a year would probably bring home about 1,400 each month.
Depends on where they live and where they teach. Each school district has a salary schedule and teachers are paid on experience, degrees, years teaching, and how many college units they have. Average starting teacher ( no matter subject or grade) in the state of CA makes about 35,000 a year. As teachers gain in seniority on a staff that base pay changes, but when a teacher hits 15 years in a district they usually don't get much more for the more time. The max number of units allowed by most school districts is also around 75 above a BA. Some states require an MA to teach, but most don't. I have a PhD and don't get any extra money as a teacher. Sometimes a 1000.00 a year will be added to the pay of a teacher for advance degrees, but again that changes from district to district and state to state. People who go into teaching don't do it to get rich. They do it to help kids and because they love it.
