No not mean but you see or may misconstrew as mean may be stern and trying to get through to you by means they may think still work. If you find that your teacher(s) is really be "mean" and not just because you don't like this particular teacher let someone know as they may not be treating you in a proper manner. Without actually knowing what they are doing its hard to say whether it is appropriate or inappropriate behaviour on the teachers part. You have to understand that we all have stern teachers but if you really pay attention and try you will find that in most cases they are trying to teach you, want you to learn and succeed and you may even find they are a person too and may not be as "mean" or as "bad" as they seem.

I think that most teachers (if not some teachers) are mostly mean because they are fustrated with their students, either because students are talking or because they are not paying attention.
