Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1918 Buffalo nickel is a better date coin of the series. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $5.00-$8.00, better grade are $15.00-$30.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $50.00-$70.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.
1918 - 1914 = 4
Nowadays 1918 as a Roman numeral is MCMXVIII but the ancient Romans would have notated it as MDCCCCXVIII
MDCCCCXVIII or IICMMXX and it is not MCMXVIII as you might have expected.
MDCCCCXVIII (1918) or IICMMXX (2020-102) and it is not MCMXVIII in the way that you have probably been taught.
M represents 1000 and C represents 100. This would translate to 1918.
