I was taught that you could move any term from one side of an equation to the other as long as you changed its sign:
4 + 10 = 8x - 2x
14 = 6x
x = 7/3 ie Two-and-a-third
Check: 2 x 7/3 + 4 = 8 & 2/3; -10 + 56/3 = -10 + 18 & 2/3 = 8 & 2/3. Boom-boom!

2x + 10 = 182x = 8x = 4
2x - 10 = 44 + 8x2x = 54 + 8x-6x = 54x = -9
8x+4 = 2x+28 8x-2x = 28-4 6x = 24 x = 4
8x+2 = 6x-10 8x-6x = -2-10 2x = -12 x = -12/2 X= -6
10x. 'coz x=? so just add 2 & 8.
