I assume you mean 3x - 8 = 12 - x

if we move the x's to one side and the numbers to the other side:

3x - 8 + x = 12 - x + x

4x - 8 = 12

4x - 8 + 8= 12 +8

4x = 20

4x/4 = 20/4

x = 5

8-3x-x = 12 8-4x = 12 -4x = 12-8 -4x = 4 x = -1

3x+8 = 12 3x = 4 x = 4/3

6x - 3x = 5x - 10x + 12 6x - 3x - 5x + 10x = 12 8x = 12 8x/8 = 12/8 x = 12/8 = 3/2 x = 1.5

8+7x = 20+3x 7x-3x = 20-8 4x = 12 x = 3

3x + 4 = 12 Subtract 4 from both sides: 3x = 8 Divide both sides by 3: x = 8/3 = 22/3
