When the jet takes off, the prop-job has been flying for 2 hours, so he has a lead of (192 x 2) = 384 miles.

The jet closes the lead at the rate of (960 - 192) = 768 miles per hour.

It takes the jet (384/768) = 1/2 hour to close the gap and overtake the slower plane.

The jet passes the slow crate 2-1/2 hours after the Jenny took off, and 1/2 hour after the jet took off.

When the jet passes it, the private plane is totally rent asunder by the shock wave. It falls apart

and flutters to the ground in a million pieces, because 960 miles per hour is well in excess of the

speed of sound at any altitude where the prop job could conceivably remain airborne, and the

passing of the jet just totally blasts it to smithereens.

Fortunately, the private pilot had anticipated this, and he bailed out a minute before the jet

overtook him ... when it was still 12.8 miles behind him ! When the cataclysm takes place

overhead, he's safely on the ground and watching it from behind a tree.
