You need to find a common denominator (the bottom number). We do that by multiplying one or both the fractions.

2/5 * 3 = 6/15

1/3 * 5 = 5/15

We multiply the first fraction with 3 and the second with 5. When we do that we end up with two equal denominators. Now you can just look at the two fractions and find the biggest one. In this case it's 6/15 because 6 is of course larger than 5.

Therefore, 2/5 is bigger than 1/3
