This is one of the more burning questions scientists are trying to answer. Much like a lot of things, there are many valid arguments for it, and many arguments against it. For now, there really is no "real" answer. In fact, there's no real way to explain this without getting into the reasons for and against it which could probably go on forever describing a reason, then an argument against that, then an argument against that, and so on and so forth. In a vague sense, (in my opinion at least) we are machines, because I believe that nothing is random because everything we do and/or say in the past will contribute to what we do now, and considering that it would be theoretically possible to view the past, present, and future from a single person's DNA...but that's getting a bit off topic =P
