Yes, it is possible to convert an M50D-R1 5-speed transmission to a 4x4 configuration using parts from an M5OD-R1 4x4 transmission. However, this process requires significant modifications, including obtaining a transfer case compatible with the M50D and ensuring proper alignment and mounting. Additionally, you will need to address the drivetrain components, such as the driveshafts and differentials, to ensure compatibility with the 4x4 system. Overall, while it can be done, it is a complex task that may require specialized knowledge and skills.
M5OD
I would guess not, an M5OD* is a Mazda replacement. To anybody who doesn't know an M5OD means Manual 5-Speed with Over Drive
yes they do
M5od-r1
Mazda 5 speed transmission M5OD-R1 is the one you have in your ranger...and f150 would have the same code on the door sticker but the tranny is a M5OD-R2

Updated --- No, because starting in 1994 ford started using Mazda engines. So the 1999 ranger will have a whole different transmission than the 1993. Incorrect.-------- Mazda has manufactured transmissions for the Ranger since 1988. The model numbers are the same from 1988 to present, M5OD-R1, with the exception of the 1997 to present 4.0 SOHC, which uses the M5OD-R1HD transmission.
therangerstation.com as well as autozone.com both have decent write ups for this problem.
FORD recommended Mercon-ATF for the Mazda 5-speed manual OD transmission in the 1992 Ranger XLT. 90 weight gear lube is probably way too heavy for this type of smaller transmission.
E4OD variant of the C6 if it's an automatic, M5OD-R2 if it's a manual with either the 300 CUID inline six or the 5.0/302 CUID V8, ZSS-42 if it's a manual with the 5.8/351 CUID V8.
The drain plug is a 15/16" socket on the m5od R2 transmission. I have heard of guys being able to use a 24mm in a pinch since it is only .007" larger than the 15/16".
if it has a removable top with a three bolt shifter plate its a m5od Mazda built. if it has a four bolt shifter hold down without a removable top its a zf German built.hope this will help you. huxrn.
