Yes. for example, if the fraction is 4/10 you could divide both the numerator and the denominator by 2 and that would simplify to 2/5. you just have to make sure that you do the same thing to the numerator that you do to the denominator, so you can't divide the numerator by 2 and the denominator by 5.

Here is an example: -

5 1/5 divide 4 4/5

Convert to improper fractions.

26/5 divide 24/5

Hence apply the rule

26/5 X 5/24

Cancel del down by '5'

26/1 X 1/24

Cancel down by '2'

13/12

Simplify

13/12 = 1 1/12 (The answer)
