SF & LF are two different things and you usually don't need to convert them, but it may be useful sometimes. For example if a mason wants to give you a price for a 6' high block fence he might give you a price of 60.00/LF, so a 100' long fence would cost 6000.00 If the customer wants a 4' high fence - 100' long, he might figure it up like this to arrive at the SF, then apply the LF pricing. Basically 60.00/6 (price per LF divided by height in feet)=10.00/SF so a 4' high fence with a length of 100' would cost 4x100x10.00= $4000.00. The masons LF price is $60.00

The masons SF price is $10.00 if the measurements aren't in feet but in inches you can use the following formula to convert LF to SF. inches in width X inches in height / 144 (which is the # of square inches per square foot) i.e. a block fence is 135" wide and 67" tall. The SF is 135x67=9045 divided by 144 = 62.81 SF. So he would charge the customer $628.00
