Newton did not invent electricity. The very basics of electric charge had been discovered millennia before Newton's birth. The English physician William Gilbert advanced this somewhat looking at the relationship between 'electricity' and magnetism 43 years before Newton's birth. All this work was fundamentally with "Static Charge" rather than what we now generally know as electricity. Michael Faraday was the first to apply electricity and magnetism to a practical use through the invention of the electric motor, transformer, and other electrical devices we use every day.
