This depends on what the numbers are. For example,

6 + (-4) = 6 - 4 = 2 which is a positive number

OR

5 + (-8) = 5 - 8 = -3 which is a negative number

In general, if you are adding a positive number a to a negative number b,

  • if a is less than b, the result will be negative.
  • if a is greater than b, the result will be positive.
