Yes, enhanced math has a point. The point is to better prepare you for higher education, such as college, particularly with an intended degree in science.
In my case, for instance, I took trigonometry, unified math, and calculus in high school, under an advanced placement program. The calculus was one whole semester. When I got to college, that entire semester was repeated in one week, and then we went on to higher levels of calculus. Needless to say, the preparatory work done in high school was invaluable in college.
