You can solve a problem by using expressions in algebra, easily. Well, it's not solving, but it's evaluating an algebraic equation (am I saying this right?). You just break it down to simplicity. Like for example:

x + (y-5)+4 to the second power when x=7, and y=2

x+(y-5)+4=7+(3+2)=7+5=12

Simple as that. Am I getting you?
