Cpl Shampaner was commanding what Marine commanders refer to as a Hunter/ Killer Team. His team was ambushed by as many as 6 enemy combatants. They neutralized these soldiers with rifle fire and Shampanier exposed himself to enemy machine gun fire to throw hand grenades.
