What is one sixth divided by three quarters?
3/4 divided by 1/6 is 9/2, or 4 1/2. In general, when dividing
by a fraction, you can flip the fraction and multiply. In this
case, dividing by 1/6 is the same as multiplying by 6/1, or just 6.
There are two ways to approach multiplying fractions. One is to
multiply on the top and on the bottom, then try to simplify. In
this case, 3/4 times 6/1 is (3*6)/(4*1) or 18/4. This simplifies to
9/2. You could also try to cancel factors before you multiply,
which might be simpler. Just make sure that you're cancelling
factors in the numerators (top) and in the denominators (bottom) at
the same time. Here, 3/4 times 6/1 is 3/2 times 3/1 (we cancel a
factor of 2 from both the 4 and the 6) which, as before, is
9/2.
