This is an ambiguous question. It might mean how do you type a character that is in the shape of a square, or how do you draw a square, or how do you make a superscript 2, indicating the mathematical operation of squaring a number. I am assuming you mean the last one. You can make any text a superscript (or a subscript) by selecting it and then clicking Font on the Format menu on the menu bar. In the Font tab (the default) in the Font dialog box, under the heading Effects, check the Superscript check box, then click the OK button.

If your question is in relation to a computer keyboard, go to a word processor application such as MS Word and for your font select "Windings" the Square is the lower case Q and the box with an X in it is the lower case X. After entering your box don't forget to change back to a normal Font.
If it's just a small square known as a Ballot box check box then hold down the Alt key and make sure the Number Lock is on. Then using your computer number pad (for the numbers) type in #9744. This may not work for all writing/publishing type programs. For example, it will wok for Microsoft Word but not when trying to print a square on a Wikianswers question/answer. Alternatively, when using a program such as Microsoft Word then click on the "Insert" heading in the toolbar, select shapes, select the square, and when you click on the page where you wish to put the shape, a square will be generated and you can adjust the size.
