are similar because the radical has the same root index and the same number inside the radical. Like variables they can have different coefficients. 2x and 5x are similar ( called like terms) add the coefficients.

2x + 5x = 7x similarly

5(sq root 7) + 3(sq root 7) = 8(sq root 7)
