Converting length is essentially the same as any other conversion.
Depending on the unit of measurement one uses, the calculation are different.
For example:
If you measure something to be 1 meter long and you want to convert it into centimeters, all you need to do is multiply 1 by 100.
1*100 = 100cm
This is because there are 100 cm in 1 meter.
There are many variables when converting length, but you always want to approach it with a systematic approach using dimensional analysis and algebra. One key is to know what conversion factors you know. For instance, most people know 3 feet = 1 yard and 12 inches = 1 feet. Less people know there are 5280 feet in a mile and that 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. Very few people know that 1 feet = 0.3048 meters, so how would you convert from feet to meters if you only knew the more common conversions?
Using the more common conversion of 1 inch to 2.54 centimeters, we've setup the equation to convert from feet to meters. Notice we use the very common feet to inches conversion, then use the inch to centimeters conversion. This leaves us with centimeters, which most people know 100 cm = 1 m, so doing this final steps leaves us with our answer in meters.
Algebraic Steps / Dimensional Analysis ____ ft*12 in
1 ft*2.54 cm
1 in*1 m
100 cm=? m
This is just one example of the hundreds of possibilities, but it should give you a good start.
Insert the word "linear". They both refer to 1-metre lengths.
1.4 miles = 2253.08 metres = 90.12 lengths of 25m
A fraction is an arithmetic quantity. Minutes are lengths of time, or sizes of angles. These are not equatable. To convert fractions of an hour to minutes of time multiply by 60. To convert fractions of a day to minutes multiply by 24x60. To convert degrees (of angle) to minutes multiply by 60.
If it were possible to convert lengths into time, then you (or perhaps someone you know) would be able to figure out how many seconds long your arm is.
Decameters can be converted into various unit of lengths .so, lets convert dam to m . on finding the relation we get. 1 dam=10 m.
Angles can't convert into lengths.
One square mile is equal to approximately 2.59 million square meters.

There are 1000mm in a metre. First we convert 8 metres to mm. i.e. 8x1000 is 8000mm. 8000/400 is 20. It goes in 20 times so there are 20 lengths.

In a short-course pool of 25 meters, it takes 60 pool lengths to swim 1.5 kilometers. In an olympic-sized pool of 50 meters in length, it takes 30 pool lengths to swim 1.5 kilometers. The number of lengths required for a pool of a different size can be calculated easily enough. Simply convert the distance to meters (1.5 km=1500m) and divide it by the length of the pool, in meters.
There are 50.

You cannot convert 400 meters to 3 kilometers. They are two different lengths. 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters. 3 kilometers would be 3,000 meters. 400 meters would be 0.4 kilometers
