Using the count() method:
Sum = -5 - 3 - 2 + 14 = 4 Count = 4 So mean = Sum/Count = 4/4 = 1

In a 7/8 time signature, you count the beats as 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2-3.
In 9/8 time signature, you count the beats as 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2.
