You must know what its mathematical properties are. What number of sides it has, whether it is regular ie. symmetrical, what length they are, and what angles lie between them. Or you take a sheet of tracing paper and trace over the polygon. Or in the old days use a pantograph, which makes a scaled copy of anything that is traced. If the polygon is three dimensional, that is it is not drawn on a piece of paper like a star shaped cookie cutter then use it to press out identical shapes.
