Just did this in my trig class yesterday.

Arc length = radius * theta(radians)

Circumference of Earth = radius of earth * 2pi

Note: The arc length is the circumference of the Earth only in this case because theta is equal to 2pi.

What is the formula that Eratosthenes discovered?

Eratosthenes of Cyrene was a Greek mathematician, elegiac poet, athlete, geographer, and astronomer. He was the first person to calculate the circumference of the earth by using a measuring system using stades, or the length of stadiums during that time period, and the tilt of the earth's axis.

What is the formula to calculate circumference using radius?

Circumference = 2*pi*radius

Part of the circumference of a circle?

An arc is part of a circumference of a circle. The circumference itself is an arc length. The circumference of a circle is found by using the formula circumference (C) is equal to 2 multiplied by pi and the radius, or 2 x pi x r, where r is the radius and pi is 3.14.

If Earth's radius was 3960 miles how long would the length of the Equator be?

The length of the equator would be approximately 24881.4 miles. Using the circumference formula 2(pi)(r) where pi is 3.141592654... and r is the radius (3960 in this case) you can find the length of the circle, the equator. 7920 in reality, is the diameter which is distance of a single straight line that starts and ends on the circle and passes through the center of the circle.

How do you determine the circumference of the earth if you know a circumference of a smaller latitude and the number of degrees the latitude is from the equator?

You can use the relationship between the circumference of the Earth and the circumference of the smaller latitude to calculate the Earth's circumference. Multiply the circumference of the smaller latitude by the cosine of the latitude. This will give you the circumference of a circle at that latitude, which can then be used to estimate the Earth's circumference.

What is the formula for the circumference of a circle using diameter?

circumference = π x diameter π = 3.14159...

What is the circumfrance of a circle and how do you find it?

the circumference of a circle is the length around the outer edge. and you find it by using the formula 2 times pi times the radius of the circle

Using the formula C 2 r find the circumference of a circle with diameter of 28 inches?

Thee formula for the circumference of a circle should read 2*pi*radius or pi*diameter. In which case using either formula its circumference is 88 inches rounded.

What is the circumference of a circle that has a radius of 6.74 in?

The circumference of a circle with a radius of 6.74 inches is approximately 42.34 inches. The circumference of a circle is found using the circumference formula: Circumference = 2 * π * radius So, all you have to do is plug in the radius into the formula, and approximate π to be 3.14159.

What is the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 18 in.?

The circumference of a circle with a diameter of 18 inches is 56.5 inches.

How many million kilometers is earth to the sun?

The distance from Sun to Earth is about 150 million kilometers; Earth's orbit is (approximately) circular, so just use the formula for the circumference of a circle (= 2 x pi x radius), using 150 million kilometers for the radius.The distance from Sun to Earth is about 150 million kilometers; Earth's orbit is (approximately) circular, so just use the formula for the circumference of a circle (= 2 x pi x radius), using 150 million kilometers for the radius.The distance from Sun to Earth is about 150 million kilometers; Earth's orbit is (approximately) circular, so just use the formula for the circumference of a circle (= 2 x pi x radius), using 150 million kilometers for the radius.The distance from Sun to Earth is about 150 million kilometers; Earth's orbit is (approximately) circular, so just use the formula for the circumference of a circle (= 2 x pi x radius), using 150 million kilometers for the radius.
