you can just analyse friend.. its not so tough.. well try dis way.

suppose radius is given.. we assume it as 'R'. Next as u said height is given say 'H'. So you can find its base area. As 'R' is given area is A = (pi)*R^2.

Next height is given. So multiply this area of circle with its height"H". What we are actually doing here is placing circles of area A to height H. So we will get the volume of cylinder because area is same in its entire height..

Suppose if its a cone then area of the circles will vary with height. The base will have greater area den the area will decrease as height increases so its volume becomes one-third of the volume of cylinder. U have to assume these but make sure that the units will be in cubic cm or cubic m and so on..
