Assuming that you have more than one of each size jug (you need at least two of one size and one of the other), fill the 7L jug, then pour the water from the 7L jug into the 5L jug. There is now 2L left in the 7L jug. Get a different 7L jug and fill it, then pour that into another 5L jug (or empty the first 5L jug and reuse it). Once again, you will have 2L left over in the 7L jug. Pour that 2L into the other jug with 2L left over and you will have 4 Liters of water.

Expressed mathematically, (7 - 5) + (7 - 5) = 4

How do you make an unmarked 5 liters from 4 and 7 liter containers?

Okay so fill up the seven liter jug completely and pour as much as you can into the 4 liter jug. You now have 3 liters in the 7 liter jug and 4 liters in the 4 liter jug. Pour the 4 liter out half way, now you have 2 liters in the 4 liter jug. Now pour the contents of the 4 liter jug into the 7 liter jug that has 3 liters in it. You know have a jug with 5 liters.

Bobby has a 5 liter container and a 3 liter container and an unlimited supply of water How can he measure out exactly 4 liters?

You have to have something else to build the 4 liters into. Call it The Tub.Fill the 5.Pour the 5 into the 3.That leaves 2 liters in the 5.Pour them into The Tub. You now have 2 liters in The Tub.Empty the 3.Fill the 5.Pour the 5 into the 3.That leaves 2 liters in the 5.Pour them into The Tub. You now have 4 liters in The Tub.QEDYou do not have a TUB, it is not in the problem.Fill the 5 liter containerPour it into the 3 liter container leaving 2 liters in the 5 liter containerEmpty the 3 liter containerPour the 2 liters from the 5 liter container into the 3 liter containerFill the 5 liter containerFill the remainder of the 3 liter container from the 5 liter containerSince the 3 liter container already had 2 liters in it, one liter from the 5 liter container will fill it leaving 4 liters in the 5 liter container.Solved

The cockleshells that grow in Mary's garden need exactly eight liters of water a day. She has two jugs of 7 and 10 liters respectively and a pond of water. Can she water her plants?

Yes, Mary can water her plants. She can fill the 7-liter jug, pour it into the pond, then fill the 7-liter jug again and top up the pond with 1 liter from the 10-liter jug. This will give her exactly 8 liters of water to water her plants.

You have two sauce pans one holds 4 liters and the other 3 Using only these two receptacles how can you measure exactly two liters of water?

Fill the 4 liter with water and empty into the 3 liter, leaving one liter in the 4 liter receptacle. Dump the 3 liter water, and pour the remaining one liter from the 4 liter into the 3 liter. Fill the four liter and dump into 3 liter until full. You now have added two liters to the 3 liter receptacle and 2 liters remain in the 4 liter receptacle.

How can you measure 6 liters of water using only 4 and 9-liter bowls?

First, fill the 9-liter bowl and pour it into the 4-liter bowl until it is full. This leaves 5 liters in the 9-liter bowl. Next, empty the 4-liter bowl and pour the remaining 5 liters from the 9-liter bowl into it. Finally, fill the 9-liter bowl again and pour 3 liters into the 4-liter bowl until it is full. This will leave exactly 6 liters in the 9-liter bowl.

If you have a 4 -liter bucket and a 7-liter bucket. You need 3-liters of water for an aquarium.Explain how to get 3 liters of water if neither bucket is marked.?

You could fill the 7-liter bucket and pour water into the aquarium until it is full, but that would make too much sense. If you really need to have three liters, fill the 7-liter bucket (which, although unmarked, will be larger than the 4-liter bucket) and pour it into the 4-liter bucket. When the 4-liter bucket is full, there will be three liters remaining in the 7-liter bucket.
