You do one of the following:

1) You use a calculator. That's usually the most convenient way to do this, because the alternatives are quite cumbersome.

2) You use one of several iterative methods, where "iterative" means that you repeat a process over and over until you get the desired accuracy. For example, you can try out squaring different numbers, until you get close enough. There are faster methods, too.
