The 'volume' of a rectangular 3-dimensional space, like a cereal box or a room, is

V = (length) x (width) x (height).

The only problem with this room is that it was not measured with metric units,

so in order to multiply the three numbers together, you have to do some crazy

head-cracking conversion first, because you can't directly multiply feet and inches.

Width = 8ft 4in = 81/3 ft = 25/3 ft

Length = 20ft 1in = 201/12 ft = 241/12ft

Height = 9ft 3in = 91/4 ft = 37/4 ft.

Those fractions are still ugly, but at least now we can multiply them.

Volume = (25/3 ) x (241/12) x (37/4) = (25 x 241 x 37)/(3 x 12 x 4) = (222,925)/(144) = 1,548.1 cubic feet (rounded)
