  • Do ALL the example problems at the end of each chapter and not just the ones assigned.
  • Go back and do a few from previous chapters now and then.
  • Read ahead; stay ahead of the class.
  • Go to the library and check out a few textbooks covering the same subject, but that are different from your own. Seeing the same thing from a slightly different point of view can make a huge difference.
  • Join a math club.
  • Practice doing math related word problems. Thinking through those word problems is a good way to start thinkingmathematically, and not just being good at knowing math procedures.
  • Ask your science teachers to point you in the direction of how scientists have actually used math to solve some of the basic questions of science-- again, not because your interest is science per se, but because you will see how people have used matematical thinking to solve problems.
  • Probably the most important: REMAIN CURIOUS ABOUT EVERYTHING.
