the same way you do when adding. Find a LCM(lowest common multiple) then do what you did to each denominator to the numerators. Example: 1/2 - 1/3. the LCM here for 2 & 3 is 6 so rewrite the problem with how you got 6. 1/2=3/6; 1/3=2/6

The answer then becomes 1/6
