Square centimetres and square metres are measures of area in 2-dimensional space: they cannot be used to measure the length of a book cover which is a 1-dimensional measure.

Any sort of scale can be used to measure weight, which can then be used to help calculate mass. There do exist 'massometers', but those are usually less common except in laboratory environments.
First you will multiply the length times the width. Once you get the answer to that you then multiply that number by the height
