All you need to know are these. 1. If a smaller number follows a larger one, you add the numbers. 2. If a larger number follows a smaller one, you subtract the numbers. Here's the simple ones you need to know. I=1 V=5 X=10 L=50 C=100 D=500 M=1,000 X+a line on top=10,000

β 13y agoRoman Numerals are a letter or sequance of letters, here are a few examples.
I = 1
V= 5
X=10
The amount of I represent 1's so II = 2 , III = 3. Instead of wrighting IIII for 4, it is writen IV. V = 5, the I is before the V so it means 5 - 1, which is 4. With 6, the I is after the V so it means 5 + 1 which is 6. So VII is 5 + 1 + 1 which is 7 etc. 9 is wrigthen as IX = 10 - 1. 11 = XI. Remeber there are never more that 3 'I' next to each other. For double digits the 'X' refer to the value of the 10's and 'v' and 'I' for 1's. Eg. 20 = XX, 18 = XVIII.
