You take the number in question and look at the 3rd (third) digit after the decimal place.

Ex: .035

If the 3rd digit is 5 or higher, you round up. If it is less than 5, you round down.

Ex. .036 goes to .o40

and

.034 goes to .o30

Sometimes it is advantageous to express a value in round numbers. To round to a particular place, look at the digit immediately to the right of the one you want to round to, in this case, the thousandths place. If that digit is 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0, zero it and everything to the right of it out. If that digit is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, increase your target digit by one and zero everything to the right of it out. If your target digit is 9, it will become a zero and increase the digit to the left of it by one.
Rounding to the nearest hundredth is just like any other rounding, but to that particular place.

In the number 1234.5678, the 6 is the hundredths. Like in all rounding, look at the number to the right of the place you want to round. 7 is to the right of 6. The same rounding rules apply:

If it's greater than 4, round up.

If it's less than or equal to 4, round down.

In this case, 7 is greater than 4 so we round up:

1234.57
