To unlock Mewtwo in SSBM, you must accumulate 20 hours of play time or 700 VS matches. The easiest way I did it was to set a Player 1 vs. Player 2 match up with no time limit and three stocks with no items. Choose two of your best players start the match and unplug the remotes and leave the system on (recommended to do it overnight, if two players are used, the time to keep the game on is cut in half, which means it will take just 10 hours to successfully work.) Afterwords, plug the remotes back in and have one character die three times. After the battle, Mewtwo should challenge you. Defeat him to unlock him.
