If you take your pictures mostly outdoors, take the 70-200. If you take pictures mostly indoors where spaces are confine, go for the 24-70. I'll go for the 70-200. I really like my 50mm f/1.4 examples: http://www.scottcookphotography.com
You need to get 70 % * 200 = 70/100 * 200 = 140 problems right, so you are allowed to get the remaining 60 wrong.
