If you mean the Cummins Diesel Engine in Dodge Trucks, the first 5.9L Cummins that was produced up until 2007.5 was a 6-cylinder diesel. The new 6.7L Cummins (2007.5 to current) is a 6-cylinder diesel also and is proven to be VERY reliable. An in line 6 has less compact parts which means they are stronger, second in line engines produce their torque very low in the RPM range unlike V8's their for it is easier to tow. I6 are also cheaper to build than the V8. And in case your wondering why the I6 is better at torque its because they have a longer stroke. The Cummins is a well built engine and is FAR superior to any other diesel out their.
